REDLING FINE ART & REGEN PROJECTS, two contemporary art galleries in Hollywood.

Hidden in a strip mall, next to a coin laundry and one of the those curios roadside stands that sells mini Grecian-themed garden sculptures, is Redling Fine Art, a contemporary art gallery that opened in 2007.

he gallery is small, kooky and kitsch. Not something you’d go out of our way for, but, if you're passing by, makes a fun drop in. There was nobody at the front desk when we went. The welcome committee was two small, brindle-haired dogs with human names (David and Mike or David and Larry, something like that). After a few moments, though, a lovely woman came out and gave us a description of the the current show.

The gallery is on Santa Monica Blvd., in the heart of Hollywood. Directly across the street is another, larger, gallery.

You’ve probably passed it before, the big white cement building with block lettering, announcing itself as Regen Projects. This one is also a contemporary art gallery, opened in 1989. It’s a large, two-roomed space with vaulted ceilings and an impressive rotation of artists.

From April 2 through August 13, 2016, there will be three shows, featuring artists Lawrence Weiner, Elliot Hundley and Daniel Richter.

There is an amiable security guard that sits at the front door. To his left is a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf filled with art books. To his right is the front desk. Three employees were working quietly on their computer when we entered. Nobody offered up a description of the artist on display, but there was a collection of pamphlets to look at, and a woman politely answered all of our questions.
